Throughout its history, Ford has provided police departments with the tools they need to do their jobs safely and efficiently. Going back to the Ford Crown Victoria, the American manufacturer has prided itself on building tough, dependable vehicles for police departments. In the modern day, they have continued this legacy; the Ford Expedition, Transit, and Interceptor are all vehicles that police departments across the United States know that they can use and depend on.

Recently, Ford has made an announcement that it is sure to be a boon to police departments; the first electric pickup truck will now be built specially for the police. The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle provides the tough yet modern technology needed everyday by police. While its acceleration and speed are useful in pursuit situations, Ford has also carefully installed features that are useful when not in pursuit as well. These include heavy duty cloth seats with smaller bolsters, so that officers can enter and exit the car more easily; red, white and blue LED warning beacons, and easy-to clean vinyl rear seats. In the exterior, the front trunk gives officers 14.1 cubic feet of lockable space and easy access for connections to the 220 amp DC-DC power source. Additionally, the F-150 Lightning's towing capability is ideal for police departments. No matter if a boat or trailer needs to be towed away, 452 horsepower, 775 lb.-ft. of torque, 7,700-pound towing capacity will be more than enough to handle it.

Ford Pro also offers several ways for departments to improve the efficiency of their vehicles.  Ford E-Telematics deliver information on fuel management, vehicle health and more manufacturer-grade information. Departments can also be delivered information on the most efficient ways to charge and service their cars with the help of Ford dealerships and charging stations. Overall, the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro SSV offers a huge opportunity to departments that look to make the next step in their police vehicles.
