Life has slowed down quite a bit for many during 2020. In early April, with shutdowns widespread, daily global carbon emissions were down by 17 percent compared to last year. As we begin to move forward into 2021 and slowly resume normal activity, it is important to consider how we can make our impact on the environment a positive and long-lasting one. Consider lowering your environmental footprint with one of Green Car Journal’s “Green Car” awarded vehicles.

Green Car Journal undertakes an extensive vetting process that considers the entire market of potential “green" finalists in the U.S. market and narrows the field to a top-five in popular, high-profile award categories. A winner is then selected in each of these categories and is presented at an annual award ceremony. In 2021, Green Car Journal selected the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E and the all-new F-150 to receive its 2021 Green Car of the Year and Green Truck of the Year awards.

The Mustang Mach-E is a compelling electric vehicle on many levels. Its performance-based electric drive, efficiency, and power-train/battery options are unbeatable. Ford did not sacrifice efficiency or looks, allowing the Mustang Mach-E to serve up smooth looks and exhilarating performance. With a low stance and sculpted, sloping front end, the car’s performance is in the focused details.

Green Car Journal cited Mustang Mach-E as being Ford’s most significant electric vehicle effort to date, lauding the decision to expand the Mustang stable while remaining aligned with Mustang’s well-established heritage.

The 2021 Ford F-150 was named Green Truck of the Year most notably for its new hybrid powertrain. The classic F-150 is now the only full hybrid powertrain available in a pickup with the 3.5-liter PowerBoost engine. Furthermore, the high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body assures quality different from anything else in the pickup segment.

As the only full hybrid powertrain in a pickup Built Ford Tough, the Ford F-150 earns this honor for an array of reasons. “The 2021 F-150’s redesign keeps things fresh,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “The addition of a full hybrid engine option is an important differentiator, as is this pickup’s available Pro Power Onboard output system with 120- and 240-volt outlets for tradesmen and construction sites.”

By electrifying two of Ford’s most popular nameplates, they are giving customers more capabilities and choices never seen before. This honorable award shows the path Ford is currently on to give customers more through innovation, sustainability, and electrification.
