For a long time, Ford has been known as a leading American automaker known for quality cars. Apart from their products, they are also well-known for their focus on philanthropy and corporate social responsibility (CSR). This is especially essential in the times we live in. With the COVID-19 pandemic, common Americans as well as business ranging from mom-and-pop shops to huge corporations have taken huge tolls from this disease.
Ford has taken notice of this issue, and recently decided to do its part to combat the pandemic through an event they put on in Southeast Michigan. One of their affiliated organizations, "Ford Warriors in Pink," exists to raise awareness of breast cancer across America. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they are carrying out this mission by distributing masks. Here, they have combined two aspects of their philanthropy.
Not only are they raising awareness during this important month, but they are also tailoring their awareness to the trying times we face during this year specifically. They have donated over 700,000 masks to help keep those in treatment centers safe from the pandemic. However, Ford’s philanthropy around this issue goes far beyond this year and the current pandemic. To date the company has donated upwards of $138 million to breast cancer awareness and help organizations.
Their organization, Warriors in Pink, supports survivors, co-survivors, and patients, and all of the proceeds from Ford’s sale of clothing or accessories through this group goes towards helping these groups. During this pandemic, many have suffered, and those who are already dealing with another illness have even more on their plate, but Ford is admirably doing its part to not only raise awareness of this fact, but provide protective equipment like masks and financial support to those affected to ease some of the burden.
This company should be an inspiration to other firms to remain an active and responsible citizen of the communities in which it operates.
