Now with a best-in-class EPA-estimated all-electric fuel economy rating of 100 MPGe combined, the all-new Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid is better than ever with an EPA-estimated 37 miles of all-electric driving range. Miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe) is an EPA metric that compares the amount of energy consumed by alternative fuel vehicles to traditional gas-powered vehicles. Vehicles that are partially powered by electricity, like the Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, are included in the MPGe metric.

As a result of Ford's investment of more than $11.5 billion in electrified vehicles—the Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid was conceptualized.  Featuring Ford's innovative fourth-generation hybrid propulsion system, the Hybrid Plug-In Escape includes an all-new 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle hybrid engine and electronic continuously variable transmission.

This is a huge feat for Ford, as it provides consumers with an alternative against rising gas prices. According to AAA, gas prices are expected to rise as the stay-at-home mandate begins to ease. After the decades-low prices of gas during the ongoing pandemic, gasoline demand is expected to spike as consumers return to normal levels of activity and travel. With the Ford Escape Hybrid, costly gas prices will be a smaller issue. Simultaneously, alternative energy is a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly option that allows drivers to do better for the world around them with every passing mile.

Ford chief product development and purchasing officer, Hau Thai-Tang, revealed that "the original Ford Escape was the world’s first hybrid SUV and the all-new Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid represents how far we’ve come in technology and efficiency.” He went on to elaborate that the all-new Escape plug-in has been able to harness so much more power and even more passenger space than the Fusion Energi plug-in, not to mention that it can now accommodate up to 4x the cargo volume stored behind the 2nd-row seats.

With the all-new Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, drives will feel spacious enough for your passengers while safely protecting cargo. The placement of the liquid-cooled, 14.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery below the second-row seats frees up plenty of room for extra cargo space.

Ford is helping its consumers make up for some of the negative economic and environmental impacts sustained through COVID-19 by offering its new Escape. Whether it be saving on gas or a potential state tax credit or rebate, there is undoubtedly a financial gain over a fully gasoline-powered car. The Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid is the balance that consumers currently need.
