Amongst the many supercars of recent years the new 2017 Ford GT has established itself as an everyday supercar, one that can mosey down the road on a rainy day back from the office or burn rubber on the asphalt of the famed Circuit de Monaco. With practicality and high performance in mind, the engineers at Ford have fashioned the new GT with five distinct driving modes, one for every weekday.
For anything involving an everyday drive, Normal mode will handle it, starting off with a ground clearance of 120 millimeters. The throttle and transmission calibrations are set for standard driving as well, but the wing will deploy as an airbrake if aggressive braking is detected. Once the speed reaches 90 mph the rear wing will also deploy to provide aero assistance, returning to its concealed position at 81 mph.
Wet mode can be used, you guessed it, when the road is covered with that pesky element we call H2O. When this mode is selected, the Ford GT’s ride height and other systems stay in the default settings. The exception being the throttle control calibration, which adjusts in order to inhibit the induction of slipping and sliding, allowing you to get home safely from the office.
If you’re feeling spirited, the Sport mode is what you would dial into. Similar to Normal mode, the GT stands 120 millimeters off the ground, but that is as far as the likenesses reach. The AdvanceTrac stability and traction control systems become driver-adjustable at this point, offering three additional settings.
The Sport mode also allows for a more responsive throttle calibration to further open the GT’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. The anti-lag system is also engaged, which keeps the turbo spinning, adding an extra umph on demand.
