On November 16-20, Ford will be entering the 2017 F-150 Raptor Ford in the 49th running of the SCORE Baja endurance event. Four-time Baja 1000 race winner Greg Foutz will be the driver. Prior to the race, the Ford F-150 Raptor was on display at the 2016 SEMA show on November 1-4.
Foutz has also run the new Raptor through several Best in the Desert events in 2016, including the most recent 645-mile General Tire Vegas to Reno Race in August. He completed the race in fifteen hours.
Even with high performance level features such as the all-new high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that delivers 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, Foutz’s team still had to make additions in order for the truck to meet SCORE rules. Due to the Raptor already having all-terrain, all-condition abilities, the only necessary additions included a chromalloy steel safety cage, puncture-resistant fuel cell, racing seats, and a full race harness along with LED lighting. The factory-spec Raptor springs and Fox Racing shocks were revised to accommodate the added weight from the safety cage and fuel cell.
Other production updates that carried over to the truck included the high-strength military-grade aluminum-alloy body and high-strength steel frame, all-new six-mode Terrain Management System and advanced four-wheel-drive torque-on-demand transfer case.
Ford Performance engineers use the race truck program as a way to share technology and prove out their trucks in the real word. Ford Performance Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi said that this testing helps create exciting products that perform and deliver Built Ford Tough capability and durability as well as take what they learn in the races to refine their engineering and design attributes.
