The 24-hour Le Mans race featured this year a model of a Ford GT racecar constructed entirely of Lego bricks. The model, which was one-third the size of an actual Ford GT, consisted of over 40,000 Lego bricks, took over three weeks to construct, and featured a #66 racing number with green wing mirrors and screen top visor, which the full-sized car had as well.

Sitting beside the real Ford GT-40, the model displayed the fact that it has been 50 years since Ford’s GT scored a 1-2-3 at the race. Held every year since 1923, Le Mans is one of the oldest ongoing endurance sports car races. This year, the race was the third race of the FIA World Endurance Championship Series.

At the 2016 Le Mans race, Ford Chip Ganassi Racing had four Ford GTs participating. Two of the Ford GTs, which will race in the FIA World Endurance Championship, kept the numbers 66 and 67, and the other two Ford GTs, which will race at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, took on the numbers 68 and 69. This was to celebrate Ford victories in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969.
