Ford is entering an exciting new chapter of electric mobility with the introduction of the all-new Ford Fathom. As the first vehicle developed on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, this midsize electric pickup combines affordability, advanced technology and practicality for everyday drivers.
The name Fathom carries a special meaning. Today it has transformed into describing the concept of understanding something deeply and completely. Ford selected the name following a nine-month development process, reflecting its commitment to understanding customers and creating a truck that adapts to their lifestyles.
Beyond its distinctive name, the Fathom promises an impressive combination of versatility and comfort. Designed to accommodate five people, the electric pickup is projected to offer more passenger volume than the industry standard. Its practical design includes a traditional truck bed and additional front trunk, providing flexible storage for everything from everyday essentials to weekend adventure equipment.
Underneath its practical design, performance and efficiency are also central to its development. Drawing on Formula 1 expertise, Ford designed the truck to achieve more than 15 percent better aerodynamic efficiency than any other pickup available at the time of its testing. According to Ford’s projections, these improvements could deliver nearly 50 additional miles of driving range compared with a truck using the same battery but less efficient aerodynamics.
Technology is another electrifying highlight. The Fathom will feature a large, high-resolution touchscreen, digital key functionality, and bidirectional power capability. Every truck will also include the hardware necessary for Ford’s next-generation BlueCruise hands-free driving assistance. Once activated, the system will integrate with Apple Maps to provide an improved highway driving experience. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility will also be available.
Behind the scenes, Ford is investing approximately $2 billion to transform its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky. Its innovative production system will assemble the truck’s front, rear and structural battery sections simultaneously before bringing them together. Prototype production is scheduled for early 2027, with customer vehicles expedited later that year.
The Fathom represents a fresh approach to electric pickups, bringing together practical capability, modern connectivity and an accessible starting price. With Ford preparing for its 2027 arrival, this all-new truck promises to make electric driving an exciting possibility for more customers.
