A huge step forward for artificial intelligence in cars, Ford and Lincoln have begun to roll out Amazon's Alexa digital assistant into their vehicles. What sets this apart from other voice control features in previous models, however, is Ford and Amazon's developments that allow your vehicle's Alexa to personalize to your speech patterns.
This new system, called Car Control, will learn what you mean when you give it general commands, and ask you to clarify to file away the information for future use. This way, when you say "Alexa, I'm cold,” at first the car will ask how to respond to your request. This might take the form of asking whether you want the heating on, the windows up, or the AC off. However, once the meaning of "I'm cold" is made clear to the artificial intelligence, it will take action in the way you prefer without asking for clarification.
Car Control will also respond to natural language more easily, so that you can say phrases like "set the AC to full blast" and know that Alexa will take the same action that a human would in the same situation. Using this hands-free technology, phrases like “Alexa, find the closest gas station,” or “Alexa, play my road trip playlist” or, “Alexa, call Mom” — are easily understood and no longer require drivers to divert their attention from the road.
Amazon Alexa technology is also used in Ford and Lincoln cars through the FordPass Alexa skill. Through this, drivers can ask Alexa to start and stop the engine, lock and unlock doors, check vehicle range or tire pressure, all from their home Alexa device. Drivers can rest easy knowing that they have control over their car, even when they aren't in it.
If you're looking for a vehicle with the newest in artificial intelligence, look no further. Alexa Car Control's introduction began with the 2022 F-150 Bronco, Mustang Mach-E and Edge, as well as the all new Expedition, Nautilus, and Navigator, and will expand to the F-150 Lightning when it is released.
