The all-new Ford F-150 Lightning has begun to ship recently, much to the delight of customers who have ordered the American manufacturer's first electric truck. With a starting price point below 40,000, the F-150 Lightning is a great pick for truck owners who want all of the benefits of electric vehicles without breaking the bank. Additionally, the benefits of electric vehicles are especially evident in the truck market.

One example of this is seen in performance. The extended-range battery pack produces 580 horsepower, which is 17 more than originally targeted. The standard-range battery pack delivers 452 horsepower—up from the targeted 426 horsepower. The battery pack and electric motors in the F-150 lighting can produce 775 pound-feet of torque, the most in any F-150 model ever. When towing and hauling freight in the bed, the electric motors' high torque production is key, which is why the F-150 Lightning has an increased maximum payload capacity. Properly equipped F-150 Lightning pickups can now haul an extra 235 pounds for a total 2,235 pounds of maximum available hauling capability. Another advantage of the modern technology implemented in the F-150 Lightning is the ability to retool and update the car's software as Ford improves it.

Ford's all new developments in electric vehicles offer other benefits that are unique in the market as well. This includes the truck's capability to feed power back into your home in the event of a power outage or during a price surge, and then recharge when power is cheaper. This capability is a huge selling point for people living in areas with extreme weather or an unreliable grid.

When charging, the F-150 Lightning is compatible with both 110- and 220-volt outlets, which are able to be installed at home. Additionally, the truck can connect to fast chargers, which gives it the ability to charge from 15 percent to 80 percent of battery capacity in just 44 minutes. Clearly, this is a huge step forward in the electric truck market and gives buyers new choices without breaking the bank.
