Ford Electric Vehicles posted a new sales record for the month of May. Ford electric vehicle sales totaled 6,254 for the month, up 222 percent over last year, while growing almost 4 times faster than the overall U.S. electric vehicle segment in May. Additionally, the Mustang Mach-E posted a new monthly sales record. The Mach-E has sales up 166% over last year, showing strong growth for the much-lauded electric crossover. Additionally, the new Ford E-Transit, an electric counterpart to the Ford Transit van, has also broken records by having its best ever month of sales since its launch earlier this year; Ford sold 874 units of the van in May.
Ford's internal combustion vehicles are still succeeding as well. The Ford F-Series was the only full-size pickup nameplate to post an increase in sales in May over a year ago. Sales for F-Series trucks increased by 6.9%, selling 24,300 more trucks than its next place competitor in the month. 59% of sales for the F-Series came from previous orders, indicating that customers are still highly eager to purchase Ford trucks. In addition to the sales from the Ford F-Series truck line, the compact Ford Maverick truck sold another 6,089 units, while turning on dealer lots in just five days. 97 percent of orders for the Maverick were previously placed, signifying a high level of demand for this model.
The Bronco family of vehicles, including the Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport, totaled 18,985 sales. This is an increase of 27.0 percent over the sales of May in the previous year. Additionally, customers are preferring higher series and trims of their cars, In May, Ford SUV high-series models represented over 45 percent of retail sales, which compares to about a third of the mix last year. This indicates that customers are eager for Ford's luxurious features that are offered in high-series models. Overall, these numbers indicate strong growth for the American brand, despite the ongoing semiconductor shortages and supply chain issues.
Rest assured, Ford is continuing onwards and will remain, built to last.
