Ford is aggressively paving its path towards electrification, predominantly in Europe. The automotive firm plans to introduce three new electric passenger vehicles and four new electric commercial vehicles in the Europe market by 2024. This new generation of seven, all-electric, fully-connected passenger vehicles and vans will mark significant strides towards the transformation to an all-electric future in Europe.
According to Stuart Rowley, the chair of Ford’s Europe branch, the brand’s march towards an all-electric future in Europe is essential in order to meet growing demand and customers’ mobility needs. He says this march forward is addressing “the pressing need for greater care of our planet, making a positive contribution to society and reducing emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.” Furthermore, the company is working to reduce its carbon emissions globally. In fact, the company announced last month that it is targeting zero emissions for all of its European vehicle sales as well as complete carbon neutrality across its European footprint of facilities, logistics, and suppliers. This initiative is set to be complete by 2035, and would be a huge feat for the Ford brand as well as our environment altogether.
By 2024, we can expect to see seven new electric vehicles in the European market. The all-electric Mach-E experienced a successful introduction in 2021, followed by the Mach-E GT’s successful introduction this year. As for next year, Ford will begin the production of an all-new electric passenger vehicle. The medium-sized crossover will be built in Cologne, with a second electric vehicle to be added to its production line-up in 2024. We can also expect to see an electrified Ford Puma, Ford’s top-selling passenger vehicle in the Europe market. The electric version of the Puma will become available beginning in 2024 and will be made in Craiova, Romania.
Ford is the leading commercial vehicle brand in Europe, and will only reaffirm its position as the top-selling brand with the release four new electric models as a part of its iconic Transit range. In 2023, we can expect to see the release of the all-new Transit Custom one-tonne van and the Tourneo Custom multi-purpose vehicle. In the year following this, Ford will release the smaller, next generation Transit Courier van and the Tourneo Courier multi-purpose vehicle.
The investment in Ford’s electric and commercial vehicle segments in the European market will likely prove to be a revolutionary one, and we cannot wait to see what comes next.
