The SCORE Baja 1000 is no ordinary race. With over 1000 miles of grueling desert terrain, it is the ultimate test of toughness for drivers and vehicles alike. Ford recognizes this, and for 2022 has built one of their toughest ever trucks: the Bronco DR (Desert Racer). Built on an already-solid Bronco frame, it includes unique body and chassis modifications to make it uniquely suited for a long, brutal desert race. Because of the rarity and specialization of this model, the initial manufacturing run will only consist of 50 units, with a starting price of over $200,000. However, its off-road chops make this price more than worth it.

Apart from its rugged Bronco chassis, it features a 5.0 liter V8 engine making more than 400hp, Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV Dampers, and safety cage. Other notable specs include 37.3” BFGoodrich tires, and significant ground clearance improvement over a four-door Badlands Bronco (averaging 56% improvement over the front and back suspensions). With a race weight of 6200 lbs, the truck will feature an approach angle of 47 degrees, departure angle of 37 degrees, and breakover angle of 33 degrees to give it the capability to take on the toughest off-road routes.

With all these specifications, the Bronco DR is a beast meant for off-road only use. It will enter the race in 2022, wearing red, white, black, and blue colors to pay homage to the original Ford Baja 1000 victory. This color scheme looks truly impressive on the truck’s fiberglass body, which has removed air conditioning, all glass components, and some other interior features for maximum weight saving to allow for the best performance.

Clearly, the Bronco DR is a truck meant for only the most serious off-road enthusiasts. For drivers that want Baja 1000 capability to take on their own adventures, it is hard to find a more hardcore, dedicated vehicle than the 2022 Ford Bronco DR.
