Ford is no stranger to building off-road worthy vehicles. The automaker is known for powerful engines and capable suspensions and powertrains that can handle even the most brutal terrain. Perhaps the best new example of this is their Bronco R race prototype. This two-door pre production vehicle is powered by a 2.6L turbo V6, and a Ford 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The Bronco R is based on the existing Ford Bronco, an existing off-road SUV.
To prove this truck’s capabilities, Ford will be running a 1,000 mile desert race, the 2020 SCORE International Baja 1000. This race is important for Ford-tackling it will mean that their off-road vehicles will be up to the task of tackling any challenges a recreational buyer could put on them. To fully tackle this proving ground, Ford has outfitted the Bronco R with several parts from Ford Performance. The customized race version of Ford’s performance off-road suspension will provide much-needed stability on rough, unpredictable terrain. In addition to this, the Sasquatch package (available to buyers as well) on the Baja-competing Bronco R will feature Bilstein shocks and 35-inch Goodyear tires.
Time and time again, Ford has proven their dedication to providing vehicles equipped for buyers of all needs. Economy car fans can enjoy the Ford Fiesta or Ford Focus. Sports car lovers can buy a Mustang. This Bronco R shows that for even the most demanding conditions, Ford has in-house engineers dedicated to building a capable vehicle. This 2020 SCORE Baja race is an exciting time for Ford-they have the opportunity to show consumers what the Bronco R can truly do. Even more exciting is the future of this model. For now, it is a prototype, but less hardcore models are readily available to buyers, even including the aforementioned Sasquatch package.
Whether you are a novice to off-roading, or a seasoned adventurer desiring a capable vehicle for all conditions, the Ford Bronco is a solid choice. The success of the R prototype is an exciting development for Ford, and its performance in the Baja 1000 is not to be missed.
