Ford is introducing the new 2020 Ford Explorer, the vehicle will come with new technology nicknamed “Mindful Mode." The Calm Screen will only show the driver the fuel and speedometer on the screen. Allowing the driver to continue their drive without the potential stress of numerous features facing them.

This new automation is the result of research done based on the interaction between humans and screens. Data shows that a majority of people want to take a break from their devices. Ford wants to, “reduce [the driver’s] stress levels behind the wheel.” By showing the driver less data, the “Mindful Mode” is removing the possibility of the driver’s attention receptors being fired up.

Sheryl Connelly, Ford global consumer trends and futurist stated, “It’s no secret many people are tethered to their devices — engaging with screens at all hours day and night. People are increasingly aware of and alarmed by their device dependency. Yet if there’s one opportunity throughout the day to reduce your exposure to digital demands, it’s when you’re driving. Ford’s new Explorer can serve as a sanctuary from chaos and distraction.”

The Ford Explorer will also come equipped in a new 12.3-inch digital cluster, new interior, the new Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology, and Active Park Assist 2.0.

The Ford Co-Pilot Technology is made to assist with the driver’s blind spots — literally. The automated technology keeps an eye out, making it known if there are any vehicles in your blind spot. The technology also helps you stay in your lane if you start to unknowingly merge; it even gives you a heads up if you may need a break by letting you know if you’ve drifted too much.

The Active Park Assist 2.0 assists the driver with recognizing an acceptable parking space. The technology isn’t meant for all situations, but when suitable, all the driver needs to do is control the accelerator and brakes while the system steers.

The new Ford Explorer will arrive summer 2019.
