Not located immediately in the Fort Wayne vicinity, many people do not realize that the O’Daniel Automotive Group has another location, in New Haven, Indiana — the O’Daniel Ford Mitsubishi location. This dealership has an excellent status on DealerRater, and recently was awarded the 2017 Consumer Satisfaction Award. It’s no surprise then that the Salesmen of the Year (SOY), Mike Pocci and Scott Oser both have perfect five star ratings on DealerRater as well. We caught up with both men to understand the secret to their success.
Mike, who has worked at O’Daniel Ford since 2009, has seen some evolution in the car business. “Clients are more knowledgable than ever—you can’t ‘dazzle’ them with specs,” he said. “Treat them like family and make the process enjoyable, and they will appreciate you for it.” He enjoys being involved in the entire car buying process with his customers, especially when he gets to hand them their new keys. His dedication knows no bounds, Mike will even schedule appointments and deliveries on his day off, if that is more convenient for the customer.
Scott, who has won SOY before, has also noticed changes in the car industry, largely due to the internet. This has led him to rely more heavily on his existing customer base. A dedicated man, Scott has worked for the O’Daniel Group since 2002. He loves the thrill of the sale and controlling his own income, so it’s unlikely he’ll be switching careers any time soon, although his future plans do include retirement. A lifelong Fort Wayner, Scott’s strongest asset is his ability to read people, and the secret to his success is simple: “Be patient.”
“Loyalty and a strong work ethic” are Mike’s strongest assets, that and “the ability to go above and beyond what is needed.” These qualities give him an extra edge with customers. He is often able to sell a customer the perfect vehicle, even when they had previously had no intention of purchasing that day.
