This past May, the new 2017 Ford GT was honored with the Gene Ritvo Award. The award is given to the vehicle or concept with the best design in the industry.
The prize was bestowed upon the 2017 Ford GT by the New England Motor Press Association, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Larz Anderson Auto Museum.
According to Zachary Dollar, an officer at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, “The challenge of producing a car like this is that the original is one of the most decorated cars in American automobile history.” Dollar added, “Ford kept enough of the original that it is still identifiable, but used modern tools, materials and technology to make it a car of today.”
Moray Callum, Vice President of design for Ford Motor Company, echoed Dollar’s sentiments saying, “The 2017 Ford GT has a revolutionary design that maintains the essence of the original GT40, while making it a 21st century car. This vehicle truly demonstrates our commitment to performance and innovation in every aspect of our business.”
The 2017 Ford GT is the company’s second vehicle to win the Gene Ritvo Award. In 2012 Ford was given the award for the Ford Fusion, and the company will inevitably striving to receive it again in the future.
