In the 2017 year of production, Ford is giving its SYNC 3 platform to all of its vehicles. All of the 2017 models will have this feature, including SUVs and electric cars.
Ford’s technique of creating a single platform for all of its vehicles, instead of going by separate vehicles, has allowed Ford to produce the SYNC 3 system.
Chuck Gray, Ford’s Global Director for Electrical and Electronic Systems engineering stated, “We developed one platform-SYNC 3-and have been able to quickly offer the technology across the lineup. Customers considering a new vehicle can now choose any 2017 model year Ford car; SUV, light truck, or electrified vehicle with SYNC 3 and be able to access their favorite apps.”
Technology used in SYNC 3 will help 2017 Ford owners do things such as connecting their phones more easily and accessing features like hands-free phone calling. Also, a variety of apps have been added through SYNC AppLink, including Pandora and AccuWeather.
Jeffery Hannah, Director of North America for SBD, a worldwide automotive technology firm stated, “SYNC 3 is already a major leap forward in terms of functionality, simplicity and user experience-Ford’s promise that every new model ships smartphone-ready is huge.”
Other features given to all 2017 models include Android Auto and Carplay. Carplay, which works with iPhone 5 and later models, allows users to access their iPhone’s screen on their vehicles touchscreen, giving them the ability to control Apple Music, phone messages and other features. Android Auto allows similar features to Carplay, giving Google Maps and music to the car’s screen.
